MOORHEAD, Minnesota Seniors Devin Mahnke and Austin Bellile each qualified for the NCAA Championships as the MSOE wrestling team competed at the NCAA West Regional Championships Saturday at Concordia-Moorhead.

The Raiders took eighth as a team at the 11-team field with 44.5 points.

Mahnke took second at 197 pounds and Bellile was third at 285 pounds giving MSOE multiple national qualifiers for the first time since 2003. Coincidentally, those qualifiers came at the 197 and 285-pound weights. The Red & White's last national qualifier was Pete Kootstra at 165 pounds in 2014.

The 2017 NCAA Championships are March 10-11 at UW-La Crosse.

Mahnke won his first three matches to punch his ticket to the first-place match and guarantee himself a place at nationals as one of the top three qualifiers. He opened his day with a pin in 1:05, followed by a 13-5 victory. He edged Robert Tait from St. John's, 4-2, to make the first-place match. Tait and Mahnke are both ranked as "contenders" just outside the top 10 nationally by D3wrestle.com.

In the first place match, Mahnke faced off with No. 7-ranked Mason Baumgartner from Concordia Wisconsin in a rematch of the CCIW Championships first-place match. Neither wrestler scored through the first two periods when each picked up a point for stalling in the third. Mahnke started the second period down and was not able to escape, allowing Baumgartner to secure the riding point in a 2-1 decision.

Bellile entered the meet ranked No. 6 in his weight. He opened with a 16-7 win but was sent to the consolation bracket by a fall in 3:30 at the hands of No. 10 Justice Davis from host Concordia Moorhead. He pounded back with a 2-0 win over a national "contender" at 285 pounds to reach the third-place bout.

Bellile also faced a familiar foe in Troy Beaman from St. Olaf. The two squared off for first place at the MSOE Invitational with Bellile prevailing. On this day, Bellile scored with three takedowns and tacked on one point for riding time in a 7-2 victory.

MSOE had two more wrestlers placed at the meet, with senior Devon McCune taking fifth at 174 pounds and sophomore Sam Rathburn sixth at 157. McCune started with a 17-1 tech fall victory before a 6-4 sudden victory loss sent him to the consolation bracket. He rebounded with a 5-1 in to put him in the consolation semifinals but was relegated to the fifth-place match by fall in 2:01. He secured fifth place with an 11-8 victory.

Rathburn suffered a 15-5 loss in his first match before winning his first consolation bracket match 18-10. In the consolation semifinals, he was pinned in 4:52 and then suffered another fall in the fifth-place bout in 2:14.

Freshman Josh Lang also won a match at his first regional meet, posting a 5-4 win in his first consolation match.
