WHEATON, Illinois Senior Devon McCune and junior Austin Bellile each won championships to lead the MSOE wrestling at their first-ever CCIW Championships Thursday at Wheaton College.

The Raiders, who also got a second-place showing from senior Devin Mahnke at 197 pounds, finished seventh out of eight teams with 76.5 points. The meet was tightly-contested, as Elmhurst won with 98 points, just 1.5 points ahead of second place. The first five teams were separated by just seven points.

Bellile was named Co-Most Outstanding Wrestler after the meet.

McCune's (20-9) path to the 174-pound title was the most harrowing, as he had to go through a pair of ranked opponents to get there. As the No. 3 seed in the bracket, he opened his day with a 16-0 technical fall victory. He then defeated Logan Walkup from Wheaton, 8-6, to advance to the first-place bout. Walkup had entered the week ranked No. 9 in the country at the weight. In the championship, he defeated the top seed, and No. 8-ranked wrestler, in Concordia Wisconsin's Mason Mergener by a score of 4-2. It avenged a loss from earlier this season, one of just four for McCune since dropping to 174 pounds (14-4).

Bellile (21-2) was also able to exact some revenge during his own championship run at 285 pounds. It took him just 1:01 to score a fall in his first match of the day, then posted an 8-0 shutout in the semifinals to set up a showdown with Augustana's Adarios Jones. He entered the match with a 32-1 record and ranked sixth in the country. He had handed Bellile his last loss, just one of two this season, in the first-place match of the North Central Open Dec. 10. This day, it was Bellile prevailing by a score of 7-4.

At 197 pounds, Mahnke (21-5) fell just short of posting a second conference championship after he had won the 197-pound crown at the 2015 Northern Wrestling Association Championships. Seeded second, he started with a 6-4 win, then defeated Mikey Swider from Wheaton, 4-3. Swider is nationally ranked in the d3wrestle.com poll at No. 9. In the first-place bout, he fell to CUW's Mason Baumgartner by fall in 3:19. Baumgartner is another ranked wrestler, sitting ninth in the NWCA poll and No. 6 according to d3wrestle.com.

Senior Garret Gross and sophomore Sam Rathburn each advanced to their respective brackets, while two more Raiders also placed at the meet. Gross rebounded from an opening match loss to secure a fall in 1:41 and advance through the wrestle-back bracket. He then picked up a pair of decision victories, first 7-3 and then 6-4 in the third-place bout over the bracket's No. 3 seed. For Rathburn, it was back-to-back falls that helped him overcome an opening defeat and advance to the third-place bout. His first came in 2:11, followed by a pin in 4:04. He suffered a tech fall loss in the third-place bout to take fourth.

Rounding out the scoring wrestlers, freshman Jack Rathburn was sixth at 149 pounds and freshman Jimmy Cushman was sixth at 141.
