Story/article about Missouri kid....
Accompanying picture... Note the coach in background interacting with his wrestler who was just defeated on the biggest stage in American college wrestling.
As a coach, you may not realize it consciously, but inside, you love 'that kid' more than any person in the world does (aside from the parents and maybe a few close relatives of him/her)....
And you are one of the most important persons in the world to 'that kid' ...
Be there for them. Start to finish and beyond. Show compassion...
Tell them you are proud of them in good times and in defeat.

Muy bien, Tom. Right on the money. Don't see through them, see them through.

My good friend and mentor, Jim Richie, once told me that coaching is an extension of counseling.  So true!  We need to focus on the whole person; not just the athlete.
